Dipika and Joshna move to the next round

India’s Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinappa moved into the second round of the Delaware Investments U.S. Open squash event being held in Philadelphia with stunning victories over Joelle King (New Zealand) and Annie Au (HongKong) respectively.

India’s Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinappa moved into the second round of the Delaware Investments U.S. Open squash event being held in Philadelphia with stunning victories over Joelle King (New Zealand) and Annie Au (HongKong) respectively on Sunday.

Dipika, the world No. 19 defeated Joelle King, who came in as a qualifier but with credentials of being a former world No. 4 and more importantly had reached the final of a major tournament recently. Dipika fought her way from a game down to win in five games, the match lasting over an hour. Dipika won 8-11, 13-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-9. The Indian ace will meet the fourth seed Alison Waters of England in the next round.

Ranked 20 in the world Joshna accounted for the ninth seed Annie in 28 minutes of tight play. The Indian national champion won in straight games 11-6, 11-7, 12-10 and plays Omneya Kawy, the sixth seed from Egypt next. In the men’s side Saurav Ghosal lost to third seed Gregory Gaultier of France losing in straight games 11-5, 11-6, 12-10.
