Ennis-Hill suffers Achilles injury

The Olympic and world heptathlon champion has been troubled by Achilles injuries during her outstanding career and the Brit has suffered another setback.

Jessica Ennis-Hill will miss the indoor athletics season after suffering another Achilles injury but is optimistic of being fully fit for the Rio Olympic Games.

The Olympic and world heptathlon champion has been troubled by Achilles injuries during her outstanding career and the Brit has suffered another setback.

Ennis-Hill, who turned 30 last month, opted to pull out of the indoor season as a precaution, as she is not prepared to take any chances with the Olympics starting in August.

She told Sky Sports News: "It's been a problem for me in the past. I've had some scans, I need to sit down with my medical team and discuss what our options are.

"I'm really frustrated, we want to get to the root cause of the problem, I have an amazing medical team and I want to get it right at this stage so it will not hinder my performance in the summer at Rio.

"At the moment it's a precautionary rest. Obviously I've had Achilles problems in the past so if the warning signs are flaring up again then it's the best thing to back off and rest and assess it properly.

"Obviously Rio has always been my focus this year and I want to be ready 100 per cent and in my peak shape, so it's about taking precautions now and making sure everything is right for the summer."

When asked if there is a danger of her missing the Olympics, Ennis-Hill replied: "At this stage I'm hoping that's not going to be the case, it's just taking that measure to get things right now.

"We're still in February, we've got a lot of time before Rio, we get it right now and hopefully it won't impact on my summer.

"I need to work out how long it's going to take to get back into full training.

"As an athlete it's so frustrating to get injuries any time of year, but a little bit of rest isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'll re-scan it within a week or 10 days and start making plans after that."
