Ethiopia’s Ayele Abshero (personal best 2:04:23) along with Dinknesh Mekash, a two-time women’s marathon winner here, will lead the elite field at the 14th Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2017 (SCMM), on January 15, the race day.
Joining these world-class runners will be Indians Kheta Ram, Mohd Yunus and Elam Singh (men), Jyoti Gawate, Monica Raut and Monica Athare (women). The total prize money is USD384,000.
This year will see 42,379 runners at the start-line, including 6,342 registering for the full marathon, 14,663 for the half-marathon, according to promoters Procam International. ASICS gear will be available for the full marathon competitors.
Johnson & Johnson’s ORSL is the Restoration Partner, Jet Airways has joined as Airline Partner. Innovations include the Mumbai Portal (a gold-painted shipping container, equipped with audiovisual technology) for interactions between persons across the globe.
