The Indian Olympic Association President N. Ramachandran revealed that Goa has shown interest in hosting the National Games in November 2017.

Speaking after the Annual General Meeting of IOA, Ramachandran said that they will be monitoring the progress of the State closely to see if it will be able to organise the Games.

“We have asked them to send a progress report every month and we will also be sending teams once in two months,” said Ramachandran.

If Goa, which heavily depends on the Central government for funds, has trouble pulling it off, Andhra Pradesh may take over. The State has shown readiness in hosting the Games with its Chief Minister Chandrababu Babu informing IOA that Andhra does not need funds from Centre to host the Games.

The IOA chief also confirmed that after Goa, Chhattisgarh will host the National Games in 2019. Andhra has also expressed interest in hosting the 2019 National Games as well. However, if the Asian Beach Games takes place in India, then either Andhra or Maharashtra will host it.

“The IOA can go to the Olympic Council of Asia for hosting the Asian Beach Games. If we get the Asian Beach Games, the two competing states are Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh,” said Ramachandran.
