Gold for Renjith but a long way to go for Rio

Renjith, who won the 2010 New Delhi Commonwealth Games bronze medal with a personal best 17.07m, won the event today with a best of 16.43m.

Renjith Maheswary who won the men’s triple jump gold in the Thailand Open athletics meet.

Renjith Maheswary was far from his season best and the Rio Olympics qualification standard as he won the men’s triple jump gold at the Thailand Open athletics meet in Bangkok on Thursday.

Renjith, who won the 2010 New Delhi Commonwealth Games bronze medal with a personal best 17.07m, won the event today with a best of 16.43m. He had jumped to a season best 16.56m while winning the National inter-State gold in Hyderabad on June 29.

The silver medal went to a Thailand jumper with 16.03m.

The Rio entry standard in the triple jump is 16.85m and July 11 is the deadline to do it.
