India u-18 girl’s team for Paris World Games

The team will represent India at the Paris World Games this weekend.

The Societe Generale India under-18 girl’s rugby team will take part in the Rugby Sevens event at the  Paris World Games 2017 on July 8 and 9.  Last year, the team won the bronze medal at the inaugural Asian under-18 Rugby Sevens Championship held in  the UAE. 

The UAE Federation, Swiss Federation, Atlantis Girls (USA) , AAS Sarcelles, Comité Paris Ile de France, Baby Paris Ladies  are the other teams that will feature in the PWG  held as a part of France’s bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Mahesh Mathai, Secretary General, Rugby India said: "We are committed towards strengthening women’s rugby and age-grade rugby in India. We have been identifying credible opportunities, and with the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia in sight, we are investing  in a high performance plan for women athletes. This strategic approach is aimed at identifying new talent and providing a program designed specifically to maximise the players potential with the ultimate goal of making a mark in rugby internationally.’’
 

The PWG will feature football, badminton, basketball, handball, Rugby Sevens and volleyball and it will be conducted from July 7 to 13. Around 15,000 athletes in the age group of 10-25 and from over 60 countries are expected to participate in the event.
