Ministry of Steel unveils Corporate Sports Policy for CPSEs

The policy is designed to help nurture sports talent and groom medal hopes for the 2024 Olympics.

To nurture sports talent and groom medal hopes for the 2024 Olympics, the Ministry of Steel has launched a first of its kind Corporate Sports Policy for its Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE).

The policy document was released recently by Union Minister of Steel Chaudhary Birender Singh in the presence of the Ministry’s sports committee Chairman N. Baijendra Kumar and Steel Authority of India (SAIL) chairman Saraswati Prasad.

Infrastructural and institutional support

Under this policy, the steel CPSEs will work to provide the infrastructure, venue, facilities, institutions, attract sponsorship, aid, felicitation, publicity and rewards. The CPSE will essentially provide infrastructural and institutional support for talent spotting, scholarship, training, coaching, workshops and camps. It will also sponsor fully or partly various national and international sports events.

An Apex Sports Body (ASB) will be formed, which will be affiliated with National Sports Federations, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and Para Olympic Federation.

The CPSE will set up sports academies and nurseries in at least one of the identified sports discipline and maintain infrastructure there for including general fitness equipment and facilities. Fresh cadets will be inducted every year to replace those passing out.
