Star lifter S. Mirabai Chanu will seek to break the 200kg barrier when she competes in the Asian weightlifting championships in Ningbo, China, on Sunday.

Mirabai, who won her World title in 48kg in 2017, bagged the Commonwealth Games title comfortably before facing the disappointment of missing out on the Asian Games due to a lower back injury.

Following the rejig in weight categories, Mirabai switched to 49kg class and made a comeback in Olympic qualifying event EGAT Cup in Chinag Mai, Thailand, where she clinched the gold medal by lifting 192kg in February this year.

She also went on to bag the National crown in Visakhapatnam with an effort of 194kg, backed by an encouraging performance of 111kg in clean and jerk.

Mirabai, who has the capability to lift 85kg in snatch and 115kg in clean and jerk, will hope to win the Asian title by completing 200kg. If she succeeds in her goal, then the Asian title, which is a gold level Olympic qualifying event, will fetch her maximum ranking points and aid her in securing a berth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Mirabai will face a tough challenge from Chinese lifters Zhihui Ho and Rong Zhang, Vietnamese Quyen Ngo Thi, North Korean Gum Ri Song and Japanese Hiromi Miyake in women's 49kg.
