Rowing C’ship: Sandeep Kumar wins single scull event

Sandeep Kumar of All India Police clinched the honours in the 500 m single scull event with a timing of 1:44.44 on the final day of the 34th National rowing championship at Hussain Sagar Lake.

Sandeep Kumar of All India Police clinched the honours in the 500 m single scull event with a timing of 1:44.44 on the final day of the 34th National rowing championship at Hussain Sagar Lake here on Saturday. The 23-year-old Sandeep, competing in his maiden Nationals and also in the single scull, was a clear winner in the race with Santosh Kadale of Maharashtra (1:46.06) and G. Vishnu Prasad of Kerala (1:46.91) settling for silver and bronze respectively.

In the women’s section, Naveet Kaur, who won a ‘double’ in the 2000 m category, again stole the show picking another double in the 500 m category today winning the single scull and then pairing with Harpreet Kaur to clinch the pairs event. Telangana Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy gave away the prizes.

Double scull: 1. Harpreet Kaur & Navneet Kaur (Pjb) 1:45.24, 2. Thara Kurian & Dittymol Varghese (Ker) 1:47.50, 3. Ch. Priya Devi & L. Lakshmi Devi (Mnp) 1:49.47.
