India edged Pakistan by a solitary point in the concluding round-robin match of men’s kabaddi here at the R.G. Barua Sports Complex on Saturday. The slender win helped India top the league standings for a place in the semifinals, where it will take on Bangladesh. The Indian men had earlier dominated Bangladesh, beating them by a 30-17 margin. The other semifinal will feature Pakistan against Sri Lanka.

Indian women sailed to the semifinals of Kabaddi in a more authoritative manner as they beat Pakistan by a huge 56-23 before beating Bangladesh 43-11. In the semifinals on Sunday, India will take on Nepal while Sri Lanka will take on Bangladesh

In Handball, India men will seek to maintain their supremacy when they take on Nepal in the men’s semifinal. The women’s team, which also had an all-win record, will meet Pakistan in decider for the title clash.

Only three countries participated in the triathlon event and all the three position were given the medals against the accepted norm of the Games Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC), which required a minimum of four countries to make the competition possible. Interestingly, for the six athletes from the three participating countries – India, Sri Lanka and Nepal – there were 63 officials to overlook the conduct of the competition. India won both the events.

Kabaddi: Men’s India bt Bangladesh 30-17, India bt Pakistan 9-8.

Women’s: India bt Pakistan 56-23, India bt Bangladesh 43-11.

Handball: Women’s India bt Sri Lanka 70-10.
