Saha wins 81km open water swimming competition

Apurba Saha, from Rishra Swmming club won the 75th Longest national open water swimming competition, 81 km on Ganga river.

Apurba Saha clocked 10 hours 48 minutes 46 seconds to win the 81km race in the 75th National open water swimming competition on the Bhagirathi river.

Apurba Saha clocked 10 hours 48 minutes 46 seconds to win the 81km race in the 75th National open water swimming competition on the Bhagirathi river here on Sunday. 

Saha beat two-time defending champion Spaniard Jose Luis Larrosa, who came second with a timing of 11:02:57, in the event, which is claimed to be the longest open water swimming event in the world.

Local lad Biswanath Adhikary came third for the fourth consecutive year. 

The results (Indians unless specified): 81km: 1. Apurba Saha 10:48:46, 2. Jose Luis Larrosa (Spain) 11:02:57, 3. Biswanath Adhikary 11:05:41. 

19km: Men: 1. Pratyay Bhattacharya 2:09:57, 2. Negbar Hossain Podder 2:12:27, 3. Aadri Sharma 2:12:41. 

Women: 1. Shristi Upadhyay 2:21:03, 2. Sonia Aktar (Bangladesh) 2:24:43, 3. Sakshi Satish Naik 2:25:30.
