RESULT: Amanda Nunes beats Irene Aldana by UNANIMOUS DECISION (50-44, 50-44, 50-43)

ROUND 5: A breezy early takedown for Nunes. Nunes has dragged Aldana towards the cage and continues to pin her in a hold on the ground. A free flurry of strikes to the body from Nunes. Aldana is running out of time as Nunes completely dominates the game on the ground in this round.

Significant strikes: Nunes: 131, Aldana: 35.

ROUND 4: Huge elbow from Nunes followed by a right hook from Aldana. Another takedown from Nunes but she fails to make the most of it, pausing to catch her breath. Aldana is struggling to impose any significant threat at the moment and is tapering off by the minute. Nunes lands some fury swipes, left and right hooks striking Aldana. An elbow and a low kick to follow. Time’s running out for Aldana. Pure domination from the champion before the break.

ROUND 3: Nunes attempts a takedown and succeeds. Nunes passes S McMann for most takedowns in bantamweight history (29). Aldana is set into a very precarious situation but she forces her way out of it and springs back to her feet. Nunes lands some hard blows but Aldana holds on.

ROUND 2: Sedate start as Nunes and Aldana still fight from within with a sense of watchfulness. Aldana lunges forward and Nunes locks her into a high knee. A brief flourish and takedown for Nunes before the buzzer breaks.

ROUND 1: And we begin. Nunes with a few calf kicks first up. Nunes grabs Aldana’s right leg and pushes her down briefly before the Mexican makes a nimble recovery. Nunes attempts a spinning backheel but loses forces in the twirl. Nuners attepts to enforce herself to the top but is cut down by a firm left hook by Aldana.

Round 1: Bruce Buffer does the announcement honours. HERE WE GO. Early low kick from Dariush. Oliveira attempts a high kick and gets one back. A few punches towards the face from Dariush before Oliveira breaks free and Dariush nearly tumbles while attempting another kick. The battle moves to the ground as Dariush finds himself on top. Olveira still manages to land a few elbows. Tricky position to be in though as Dariush comes around to constrict him. Olveira twists and nearly puts him in further trouble. And Oliveira is back on his feet and BANG! One fiery kick to the head and there he goes on a barrage of hooks and blows to Dariush. OLIVEIRA KOs DARIUSH IN ROUND 1!!

Result: Milke Mallott defeats Adam Fugitt by submission (guillotine choke)

Round 2: Mallott floors Fugitt in a flash and lands him in a chokehold. A fiery left hook before dropping him and locking in the guillotine. Done and dusted! It’s Mallott all the way!

Round 1: Mallott and Fugitt exchange some serious body kicks first up. Mallott lands three in under a minute. A seamless knockdown from Mallott and Fugitt has no way to get up on top at the moment. Another takedown from Mallott to do in the second round.

Round 3: Landwehr has Ige lined up towards the cage and he escapes a hold and attempts an upperkick. Landwehr makes some ground in this round and works Ige to his knees before sending in a barrage of punches before the fight comes to a close.

Round 2: The fight picks up pace and Ige is looking more confident after that late jab in R1. Huge left hand from Ige out of nowhere and Landwehr is in trouble. Ige fails to nail it in as Landwehr survives to see off Round 2.

Round 1: Fight’s on. Watchful approach early on from both fighters. Ige makes the first move, pushing himself toward Landwehr for a jab. A sedate start here as the first round draw towards a close. No significant movements from either fighter. Ige knocks Landwehr off his fight with a sharp cross but Landwehr makes a quick recovery to stand back up before the buzzer goes off.

Round 3: A slew of strong exchanges. Barriault is landing a fine series of knocks, tiring Anders down now. The arena goes into a loud cheer as Barriault sends in a powerful low kick and Anders retorts with a straigth punch. Barriault lands two to the face, opening up Anders, right before the fight closes at the buzzer.

Round 2: A Timeout early into the second round after Anders cops an illegal blow. The referee holds out a warning for Barriault. Anders gets hold of Barriault for a takedown. Another timeout! Barriault with a kick to the groin and Anders receives a breather. Back in and Anders straightaway lands a punch to Barriault’s face. A subdued Round 2 comes to and end.

Round 1: Barriault floors Anders early with a brutal punch. Good recovery from Anders to get back and send in a few hard fists to Barriault. Both fighters are on the attack from the get-go. Anders pushes Barriault to the cage and inflicts a few low kicks before using the elbow to good effect. Anders works hard for a takedown but Barriault wriggles out of the stranglehold. Round 1 ends.

Both Anders and Barriault are coming into the contest on the back of a win and it will be interesting who comes upon on time, given the inconsistencies both have had in recent years.

UFC 289 - Preview

Two-division UFC champion Amanda Nunes puts her bantamweight belt on the line against Mexican challenger Irene Aldana in the main-card fight of the UFC 289 at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada, on Saturday night.

The most decorated female fighter in UFC history, Nunes recaptured the belt with a July 2022 win over Julianna Pena.

Aldana (14-6-0) replaced Pena, who was scheduled to face Nunes (22-5-0) for the third time to settle scores but suffered a rib injury in training camp before the fight.

Former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira squares off against Beneil Dariush in the co-main event.
