CRICKET

India defeated England by an innings and 36 runs to win the fourth Test and take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-Test series. Virat Kohli's double ton, Ashwin's stunning 12-wicket haul and invaluable contributions from Murali Vijay and Jayant Yadav helped India pull off a big win. > (Match Report)

Elsewhere, Australia won the Chappell-Hadlee series after completing a whitewash over New Zealand in the three-match ODI series. David Warner was the star performer with the bat in the final two games, scoring 119 and 156 in Canberra and Melbourne respectively. > Report

FOOTBALL

The Champions League group stage came to an end. As expected, it was filled with drama on the final match days. Arsenal sealed the top spot, Dortmund equalised in the last minute against Real Madrid to pip the defending champions as the group winner. Take a look at the > teams which made it to the last 16.

In the Europa League , Manchester United progressed to the round of 32 with a comfortable 2-0 win over Zorya, however Southampton was knocked out after drawing 1-1 with Hapoel Beer Shava. Click here for details

In the Premier League , Arsenal beat Stoke City 3-1 and Leicester registered a surprising 4-2 win over Manchester City, owing to a Jamie Vardy hat-trick. Chelsea defeated a resolute West Bromwich Albion 1-0, Diego Costa being the difference between the two teams. Mkhitaryan continued his midweek form as his goal proved to be the difference between Man United and Spurs, meaning the gap between the two clubs was reduced to just three points. Liverpool’s defence again leaked goals as it drew 2-2 against West Ham United.

In La Liga, Barcelona resumed normal services, registering a comfortable 3-0 win over Osasuna, Lionel Messi got a brace and Luis Suarez found the net for the Catalan side. Real Madrid again left it late, and Sergio Ramos again came to his side’s rescue as it defeated Deportivo 3-2 at the Bernabeu, with this win Madrid also broke the club record of 34 unbeaten games.

In Bundesliga, Bayern Munich registered a comfortable 5-0 victory over Wolfsburg, a late Reus equaliser helped Dortmund salvage a point against FC Koln.

In the ISL, ATK and Kerala Blasters won the first legs of their semifinals against Mumbai City FC and Delhi Dynamos respectively. ATK registered a 3-2 win over Mumbai, while Blasters won 1-0 against the Dynamos.

GOLF

Aditi Ashok won the Rookie of the year award and finished a Tied-third in Dubai to cap off what has been a brilliant year for the 18-year-old Indian.

HOCKEY

The Junior Hockey World Cup commenced in Lucknow on Thursday. India colts put up a strong show — defeating Canada 4-0 in the first game and then beating England 5-3. As a result, India progressed to the quarterfinals.
