Youth Olympic Rugby: India secure seventh spot in qualifers

The U-17 boys beat UAE 24-7, Laos 24-5; Japan won the title defeating Thailand 43-0.

After losses against heavyweights Malaysia, Hong Kong and host nation Chinese Taipei, the Indian boys, captained by Narasing Mandi, defeated UAE, lost to Philippines and secured the seventh place by getting past Laos.

India U-17 boys team finished seventh, on Sunday, at the Youth Olympic Games Rugby Sevens Qualifiers, held at the Tainan Municipal Stadium, Tainan, Chinese Taipei. Japan won the title, defeating Thailand in the final 43-0 at the event, where 10 Asian national teams took part. Chinese Taipei beat Malaysia 40-7 for the third spot.

After losses against heavyweights Malaysia, Hong Kong and host nation Chinese Taipei, the Indian boys, captained by Narasing Mandi, defeated UAE, lost to Philippines and secured the seventh place by getting past Laos. The Indian team took part under the aegis of Indian Rugby Football Union (IRFU) and was supported by Societe Generale.

Results: Malaysia beat India 55-0, Hong Kong beat India 31-5, Chinese Taipei beat India 40-5, India beat UAE 24-7, Philippines beat india 29-5, India beat Laos 24-5.
