Gymnasts light up World Championships 2018

The 48th edition of the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships is being held at Doha, Qatar. It is the first time that the event is being held in the Middle East.

Simone Biles of USA competes in the Women's Floor Qualification during day three of the 2018 FIG Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Doha. Biles overcame the drama of being rushed to hospital with a kidney stone in a hugely impressive return to international competition just hours later at the world championships on Saturday. She also finished a provisional first place in the vault, beam and floor competitions.

Ruoteng Xiao of China competes in the Men's Vault Qualification during day two of the 2018 FIG Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Doha. Ruoteng was star of the day replacing Russia’s Nagornyy Nikita (87.098) in Men’s All-Around Qualification after earning 87.332 points.

Kenzo Shirai of Japan competes in the Men's Rings Qualification during day two of the 2018 FIG Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Doha. According to Wikipedia, Shirai currently has 6 original skills officially named after him. Naming of all Shirai's original skills was automatic as they were successfully completed at FIG-sanctioned events—namely the Olympics or World Championships—except for the Shirai 3 on floor, which was acquired via petition with the FIG since it was successfully completed at a non-FIG competition and can only be officially awarded the name of its originator through the petition process.

Max Whitlock of Great Britain competes in the Men's Pommel Horse Qualification during day two of the 2018 FIG Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Doha. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Whitlock was part of the team that won gold in the team event, while at the 2018 European Championships in Glasgow, Whitlock won a silver as part of the team.

Nikita Nagornyy of Russia competes in Men's Rings Qualification during day one of the 2018 FIG Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Doha. He finished first with 87.098. According to Wikipedia, Nagornyy began gymnastics at the age of six under the encouragement of his grandmother.

Dominick Cunningham of Great Britain competes in the Men's Rings Qualification during day two of the 2018 FIG Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Doha. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast, Australia, Cunningham was part of the team that won gold on the men's all-around event. Also, at the 2018 European Championships in Glasgow, Cunningham won gold in the floor exercise.

Chaopan Lin of China competes in the Men's Parallel Bars Qualification during day two of the 2018 FIG Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Doha. He won the silver medal at the 2017 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in the all-around competition.

Kohei Uchimura of Japan competes in the Men's Horizontal Bar Qualification during day two of the 2018 FIG Artistic Gymnastics Championshipsat in Doha. Ten-time World and two-time Olympic champion Uchimura has shown again and again that he does not have a problem carrying the burden of expectation.

Kara Eaker of USA competes in the Women's Balance Beam Qualification during day three of the 2018 FIG Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Doha. Eaker, who turns 16 next month, drilled a 14.466 on balance beam.

Mai Murakami of Japan competes in the Women's Uneven Bars Qualification during day three of the 2018 FIG Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Doha. Murakami finished in third place, on 55.632 after qualifiers on the vault, uneven bars, beam and floor exercise.
