Pankaj Advani dropped two frames against a skilful and competent Sundeep Gulati. But the multiple-title winner did not let the pressure of a semifinal affect him as he proceeded to position for another national snooker title in the 84th Manisha National billiards & snooker championship at the PYC Hindu Gymkhana on Wednesday.
It took a little over three hours for Advani to get past Gulati 5-2 in the match set to nine frames.
Ranked No. 3 after last year’s nationals at Indore, Gulati had his chances to capitalise on, but missed a handful of shots, just like the black on a break in the seventh frame.
After sinking the blue, he tried to snooker a number of times, in order to reduce the 21 point deficit, but eventually Advani pocketed the pink to win a competitive match.
The results: semifinals: Pankaj Advani (PSPB) bt Sundeep Gulati (Del) [54-50, 23-65, 24-80, 67-13, 71-57, 69-12, 65-44].
Women: snooker quarterfinals: Arantxa Sanchis (Mah) bt Meenal Thakur (Mah) [85-7, 65-19, 60-35], Amee Kamani (MP) bt Suniti Damani (WB) [81-36, 1-59, 64-37, 57-4], Varshaa Sanjeev (Kar) bt Keerat Bhandaal (Del) [74-36, 73(57)-28, 67-45].
