Argentina's men's hockey team celebrates.

Gonzalo Peillat scored a hat-trick as Argentina beat defending champion Germany to reach the final of the men's Olympic hockey final and Belgium saw off the Netherlands to stay in the hunt for gold.

Germany beat the Netherlands in London to retain four years ago to retain the title it won in Beijing, but it will do battle for bronze this time around.

Peillat was the star of the show for Argentina in the first semi-final at the Olympic Hockey Centre, scoring all three penalty corners to inspire a 5-2 victory and book a place in Thursday's final. Joaquin Menini and Lucas Vila also struck as the South American nation left the champion shell-shocked by taking a 5-0 lead, so the damage had already been done by the time Germany scored two late goals.

The Netherlands missed out on gold once again after going down 3-1 to neighbour Belgium, which is through to its first Olympic final.
