The Olympic Games promise to showcase some of the finest sporting talents on the planet over the coming fortnight — but a horseriding dog has threatened to steal the show on day one.

Athletes may have headed to Brazil expecting to return with a wealth of new experiences, but British long-jumper Jazmin Sawyers was taken aback when she spotted this horsey hound riding by.
"Ever seen a dog riding a horse? Well I have now pic," tweeted Sawyers.
The cantering canine caught the eye of a number of onlookers, with marathon runner Alyson Dixon too slow out of the blocks to photograph the pooch and its passengers.
I'm glad someone else caught this, highlight of my day! I couldn't get my phone out quick enough to get a snap!" tweeted British marathon athlete Aly Dixon.
With climbing and surfing among the sports to have already been added to the schedule for the 2020 Games, could we see doggy dressage also make the cut in Tokyo? Not a dog's chance.
