Michael Phelps, on Tuesday, increased his Olympic gold medal collection to 21. No active athlete is in the vicinity to scale Mt. Phelps. Larisa Latynina, who follows the US swimmer on the most Olympic gold medal list, has 12 golds fewer and is 81 years old. Forget athletes, more than 100 countries don't have as many Olympic medals.

The US gymnastics team, led by Simone Biles, blew its opposition away to win the gold medal by a massive 8.209 points over second-placed Russia. It was the biggest winning margin of any global championships since 2006.

It wasn't a great day for the US in the tennis court as favourite Serena Williams suffered a shock exit after losing Ukraine's Elina Svitolina. The 34-year-old, possibly competing in her last Olympics, lost 4-6 3-6.

India had a few reasons to smile after archer Atanu Das, boxer Vikas Krishan and the Indian men's hockey team registered wins.

As we move on to day six, there are 20 gold medals up for grabs.
