It seems as if Michael Phelps can't stop himself from winning Olympic gold medals. On the seventh day of Rio Olympics 2016, the American finished almost two seconds clear of Japan's Kosuke Hagino in the 200m individual medley to win his 22nd gold.
Phelps now has won 13 individual events, spanning five Olympics. Nobody has won as much. Leonidas of Rhodes won 12, 2000 years ago.
Fellow American Simone Biles, as expected, soared to win the all-around gold medal in gymnastics. Biles became the fourth straight American woman to win the all-around title.
Meanwhile, Great Britain had some anxious moments as its number one tennis star, Andy Murray, survived a scare to reach the quarterfinals of the singles event. Murray beat Italy's Fabio Fognini 6-1 2-6 6-3.
It was a disappointing day for the Indians as it suffered defeats in hockey, archery, boxing and badminton. However, star shuttlers Saina Nehwal and P. V. Sindhu and the mixed doubles tennis team of Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna clinched comfortable wins.
Day 8 of the games will have 24 gold medals up for grabs.
