The Indian girls rugby team finished fourth at the Asia U-20 Girls Rugby Sevens Series, held at the Kings Park Stadium, Hong Kong on Monday. Captained by Ruchi Shetty, the side won three out of six matches in the seven-nation competition, played on a round-robin league format. China, Thailand and Hong Kong took the first three places. Singapore, Malaysia and Uzbekistan finished in that order behind India.
The Indian girls faced stiff competition on the first day, going down to Thailand (0-36), but they got past Malaysia (10-0), before suffering two more defeats against China (0-32) and Hong Kong (0-39) respectively. India turned things around on the second day, registering successive victories over Singapore (10-5) and Uzbekistan (22-15).
Final rankings: 1. China, 2. Thailand, 3. Hong Kong, 4. India, 5. Singapore, 6. Malaysia, 7. Uzbekistan. India scores: lost to Thailand (0-36), beat Malaysia (10-0), lost to China (0-32), lost to Hong Kong (0-39), beat Singapore (10-5), beat Uzbekistan (22-15).
