Saurabh Chaudhary-Manu Bhaker win junior mixed team gold with world record

Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary shot a combined 485.4 to clinch the junior mixed air pistol gold in Kuwait on Friday.

Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary dominated the final to finish on top in the mixed air pistol gold event at the 11th Asian Air Gun Championship.

It was a golden climax for India as the 16-year-old Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary combined to clinch the junior mixed air pistol gold with a junior world record of 485.4 in the 11th Asian Air Gun championship which concluded in Kuwait on Friday.

After qualifying in the second place with 762 behind China's Wang Xiaoyu and Hong Shuqi— they shot the same score but had two more inner-10s — the Indian pair overwhelmed the other Chinese pair (Wang Keyi and Xie Yu) by 7.5 points for the gold.

After a strong start, the Indian pair dominated the final, leaving the Chinese to settle for the silver and bronze medals. 

Saurabh Chaudhary, who had shot 585 in qualification, had earlier won the junior men’s air pistol, while Manu Bhaker had missed a medal in junior women’s air pistol.

The second Indian pair of Abhidnya Patil and Anmol Jain missed a medal by a half point.

Junior mixed air pistol team: 1. India (Manu Bhaker, Saurabh Chaudhary) 485.4 WRJ; 2. China-A (Wang Keyi, Xie Yu) 477.9; 3. China-B (Wang Xiaoyu, Hong Shuqi) 413.5; 4. India-B (Abhidnya Patil, Anmol Jain) 372.1.
