Angad Vir Singh Bajwa won the skeet gold with a world record in the Asian Shotgun Championship in Kuwait.

It was a telling statement from the young Angad Vir Singh Bajwa as he won the men’s skeet gold with a perfect World record of 60 in the final of the eighth Asian Shotgun championship in Kuwait.

Competing on his own, as the government had dismissed the proposal of fielding a national team, the 23-year-old Angad had qualified for the final with 121, following a series of 24, 24, 24, 24 and 25.

There was a shoot-off to decide the placings before the final, as that would count towards progress in case of a tie along the way. Angad did miss a bird in a three-way tie, allowing five-time Olympian Saeed Almaktoum of the UAE a better rank.

However, it did not matter as Angad did not miss a bird thereafter, and shot 60 straight, a phenomenal exercise as a regular has only 25. He beat the qualification topper Jin Di of China by two points for the gold.

In the concurrently held, 11th Asian Air Gun championship, Elavenil Valarivan and Hriday Hazarika won the mixed air rifle gold with a world junior record score of 502.1 in the final, as they beat the Chinese qualification toppers, Shi Mengyao and Wang Yuefeng, by 1.2 points.

The second Indian team of Mehuli Ghosh and Arjun Babuta won the bronze.
