The Indian team of Kynan Chenai and Shreyasi Singh won the mixed trap bronze in the Asian Shotgun Championship in Astana, Kazakhstan, on Wednesday.

The Indian pair had narrowly missed qualifying for the gold medal match, as it lost the shoot-off to Kuwait, which went on to clinch the gold ahead of Korea, 36-35. India had topped the qualification in a field of 18 teams with a score of 91, and eventually beat Lebanon for the bronze medal 40-38.

While it was a good recovery for Shreyasi after the below-par fare in tough conditions in women’s trap, Kynan was following up on his good performance of winning the bronze in men’s trap. The other Indian team of Zoravar Singh Sandhu and Seema Tomar shot 84 in qualification and missed qualifying for the six-team semifinals by three points.

The results

Mixed trap: 1. Kuwait (Abdulrahman Al Faihan & Sarah Al Hawal) 36 (38)2 (88); 2. Korea (Oh Taekeun, Kang Geeeun) 35 (42) 90; 3. India (Kynan Chenai, Shreyasi Singh) 40 (38)1 (91); 4. Lebanon (Alain Moussa, Ray Bassil) 38 (41) 90.
