Gurpreet Singh was near flawless in gathering 396 out of 400 in the 8-second and 6-second series, but dropped nine points in the 4-second series.

Olympian Gurpreet Singh shot a world class score of 587 in men’s rapid fire pistol, but finished sixth in the subsequent final in the 48th Grand Prix of Liberation shooting competition in Plzen, Czech Republic, on Friday.

After having shot three points less than the eventual gold medallist, the reigning Olympic champion Christian Reitz of Germany, Gurpreet misfired in the second, third and fourth series of the final after starting with a 4 out of 5.

He was near flawless in gathering 396 out of 400 in the 8-second and 6-second series, but dropped nine points in the 4-second series.

Considering that some of the best shooters like Jitu Rai (air pistol), Swapnil Kusale, Chain Singh and Sanjeev Rajput (rifle prone event), did not make the finals, it was a good fare by Gurpreet.

Gagan Narang topped the qualification in 50-metre rifle prone event with 628.4, but missed a medal by 0.2 point to Neil Stirton of scotland. Sushil Ghalay was fifth.

Anmol Jain won the air pistol bronze, behind Damir Mikec of Serbia and Samuil Donkov of Bulgaria, while Olympian Prakash Nanjappa placed seventh, missing further progress by 0.3 point.

In standard pistol, a non-Olympic event with no final, Neeraj Kumar, Harpreet Singh and Deepak Sharma swept the medals.
