A 14th-place finish by Mohd. Asab was the best Indian performance of the day.

National champion Mohd. Asab shot 134 and missed the double trap knock-out phase by four points in the shotgun World Cup in San Marino on Monday.

Asab who had shot the bronze in the World Cup Final last year in Nicosia and had also shot 143 in reaching the fifth place in the Gabala World Cup, had a series of 25, 29, 27, 26 and 27, as he placed 14th in a field of 49 shooters.

He was distinctly unlucky not to qualify for the Rio Olympics, and has since been unable to regroup himself for better challenge in recent international competitions.

Two other Indian shooters, Ankur Mittal (132) and Sangram Dahiya (131) followed Asab in the 22nd and 28th place respectively.

Competing in the MQS section, Shamsher Singh Chauhan slipped after a first round of 29 out of 30, and returned a total of 129.
