National selection trials: Anjum Moudgil shows form

The Punjab shooter took the first and second places in the first two matches of the season in women’s prone at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Saturday.

Anjum Moudgil took the first and second places in the first two matches of the season in women’s prone in the National shooting trials at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, here.

Anjum was beaten to the top spot by Amandeep Kaur, by 0.7 point, on Saturday, after she had topped the table 0.7 point ahead of Meena Kumari on the opening day.

Among the juniors, Bhakti Bhaskar Khamkar was firmly placed on top in both trials, while Shirin Godara managed to take the second and third places. Kinnori Konar did well to climb to the third spot in the second trial, from the fifth place in the first.

Jitu Rai wins

In men’s air pistol, the experienced Jitu Rai asserted his class by beating Ritu Raj Singh of Air Force by 2.1 points. Jitu led by 0.4 point before the last two shots, but delivered 10.3 and 10.4 to stretch the margin.

Abhishek Arya managed to place third while qualification topper Gaurav Tomar (584) placed seventh and Omprakash Mitharwal (582) finished fourth.

In junior men’s air pistol, Vijayveer Sidhu topped 1.8 point ahead of Arjun Singh Cheema. Qualification topper Abhishek Arya (577) finished fourth, while Anmol Jain ended up fifth.
