The 61st National shotgun championship will be held at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad here from November 14.
There was a possibility of the event being shifted to another venue, after the Sports Authority of India (SAI) had initially cancelled the North Zone championship.
The SAI, however, reversed its decision and allowed the conduct of the North Zone event, currently in progress, and estimated to feature about 4000 shooters.
The shooting range, which was host to the prestigious World Cup Final recently, had met stringent international standards. Thus, it was a surprise for the shooting fraternity when SAI stated that permission could not be granted for the zonal competition, on the dates specified, owing to technical reasons.
The National shotgun championship will start with trap. After pre-event training on November 14, the trap competition will spread over four days. November 16, 17 and 18 will feature the women’s final, men’s final and the mixed event respectively.
Double trap will spread over two days on November 20 and 21. The skeet competition will be from November 23 to 25.
The National championship for the rifle and pistol events is scheduled to be conducted in Kerala in December.
