Commonwealth Championship silver medallist Shreyasi Singh tightened her grip over double trap as she won the gold with a five-point margin over Varsha Varman in the 61st National shotgun championship at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Monday.

Shreyasi shot better in the second and third rounds in the four-round series, to aggregate 92 points out of 120.

Varsha, who studies in Harvard, could not step it up the way Shreyasi did after both shot first rounds of 20. Varsha also couldn't not make much of an impact in the trap competition where Shreyasi won the bronze.

The trap gold medallist Shagun Chowdhary did well to take the bronze eight points behind Shreyasi.

The rest of the trap specialists like Varsha Tomar, Manisha Keer, World Cup silver medallist Seema Tomar, Anam Basit and Nivetha Nenthirasigamani could not climb close to the medals.

Former pistol champion Sushma Singh also tried her hand at double trap and shot 67 as she was better in the third and fourth rounds.

Bhavna Chaudhary pipped Manisha Keer by four points for the junior women’s gold, while Divya Singh beat the junior trap champion Nivetha
by one point to the bronze.

As double trap is a non-Olympic event, there is no final for women. The men still have final as the event went out of the Olympic fold very recently.

The results:

Women: Double trap: 1. Shreyasi Singh 92; 2. Varsha Varman 87; 3. Shagun Chowdhary 84. Junior women: 1. Bhavna Chaudhary 79; 2. Manisha Keer 75; 3. Divya Singh 70.
