Heena Sidhu pipped Harveen Srao by 2.2 points to top the women’s air pistol event in the third National shooting selection trials at Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Saturday.

A string of top scores, with Shri Nivetha shooting 389, two points ahead of Heena in qualification, set the tempo for the competition.

Nivetha eventually settled for the bronze, which was commendable considering that she pushed the world junior champion Yashaswini Singh Deswal to the fourth spot by 0.3 point.

Ruby Tomer, Malaika Goel, Priya Raghav and Preetnoor Nagra placed fifth to eighth in that order.

In women’s rifle 3-position event, Gaayathri Nithyanandam clinched the top position, 0.6 point ahead of the shooter in form, Anjum Moudgil.

Gaayathri, who had shot a modest 574 in qualification like Anjum, came up with rounds of 10.5 and 10.8 on the last two shots in the climax of the final while Anjum slipped with shots of 9.9 and 8.9.

Shreya Saksena, who had topped qualification with a score of 580 like Dilreen Gill, beat Aditi Singh to the third place. Dilreen, Raj Choudhary, Tejaswini Sawant and Tejaswini Muley placed fifth to eighth in that order.
