Shri Nivetha Paramanantham of Tamil Nadu rose to the top as she beat D. Padma of the Railways by 2.5 points in women’s air pistol in the third National Shooting selection trials at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Wednesday.
On a day when the national women’s, junior and youth champion, Esha Singh, missed the final by two points with 569, after having started in a brilliant fashion with two 100s, Shri Nivetha qualified in the second place with 579, two points behind Yashaswini Singh Deswal.
Eventually Shweta Singh managed to pull ahead of Yashasiwni, Ruchita Vinerkar, Olympian Annu Raj Singh, Pushpanjali Rana and Yogita to the third place.
Yogita had pipped Neeraj Kaur and Harveen Srao on the basis of better inner 10s to grab the last berth in the final. She topped among the juniors, one point ahead of the 14-year-old Esha who had the consolation of topping the youth field.
In men’s 25-metre centre fire pistol, Yogesh Singh of the Navy shot 589 to beat Olympian Gurpreet Singh for the top spot. Olympic silver medallist Vijay Kumar placed sixth with 577.
In men’s 50-metre rifle prone event, Sanjeev Rajput topped with 624.3
