Two more World Cups for shooters to tune before Rio

The shooters have two more World Cups in San Marino from June 1 and Baku, Azerbaijan, from June 20, to tune themselves for the Rio Olympics.

The shooters have two more World Cups in San Marino from June 1 and Baku, Azerbaijan, from June 20, to tune themselves for the Rio Olympics.

The World Cup in San Marino will be for shotgun and will feature trap shooters, former World Champion Manavjit Singh Sandhu and Kynan Chenai, who will be training their guns for Rio. Prithviraj Tondaiman will be the third trap shooter in the men’s event, while Shreyasi Singh, Seema Tomar and Rajeshwari Kumari will be competing in women’s trap.

Mohd. Asab, Ankur Mittal and Sangram Dahiya in double trap along with Man Singh, Smit Singh and Sheeraz Sheikh in skeet will attempt to capitalise on the competition. The main skeet shooter who qualified for the Olympics in the World Championship, Mairaj Ahmad Khan has opted to skip the San Marino World Cup and train for the next in Baku.

Women’s skeet will have Rashmee Rathore and Maheshwari Chauhan, while Shamsher Singh Chauhan has been entered in the MQS section for double trap. Meanwhile, the last World Cup of the season in Baku will have events

in rifle, pistol and shotgun. The Indian team of 35 shooters will feature 10 of the 12 shooters bound for Rio. Abhinav Bindra, Apurvi Chandela, Kynan Chenai, Mairaj Ahmad Khan, Prakash Nanjappa,Gagan Narang, Jitu Rai, Heena Sidhu, Chain Singh and Gurpreet Singh are expected to test their competition-readiness in the World Cup, before they immerse themselves in training for the Olympics.

Interestingly, Manavjit Singh Sandhu and Ayonika Paul, two other Olympics-bound shooters, do not figure in the list for the last World Cup, as they may have different preparatory plans in consultation with their coaches.
