Olympian Kynan Chenai shot 73 out of 75 on the first day of trap in the World Cup in Acapulco on Sunday.

The 25-year-old Kynan shot 24, 25 and 24 to share the second best score of the day with eight others, and was placed 11th. Four shooters led with 74.

Two more rounds followed by the final were scheduled for the second day.

The other Indian shooters Zoravar Singh Sandhu (71) and Birendeep Sodhi (70) were not that well placed to make the final, featuring the top-six from a strong field of 61.

India did not field any shooters for women’s trap in which Ashley Carroll of the US beat Natalie Rooney of New Zealand 1-0 in the shoot-off after being tied on 42 in the final. In fact, Carroll pipped five others in the shoot-off for the last spot in the final after being tied on the qualification score of 70.

The results:

Women’s trap: 1. Ashley Carroll (US) 42(1) 70(4); 2. Natalie Rooney (Nzl) 42(0) 71; 3. Alessandra Perilli(Smr) 30 (73).
