Sports Authority of India (SAI) has extended Indian squash team's foreign coach Achraf El Karargui's contract by a period of two years. Karagui replaced Maj. S. Maniam last year.

His one-year contract will expire July end. However, with the extension, he will continue to work along with India's national coach, Cyrus Poncha, till 2019.

Speaking to the Sportstar here on Tuesday, Poncha said, “We are happy with the extension. He has been really good with the seniors and juniors. I believe his ideas and work ethics are helping us head in the right direction.”

Achraf will have his hands full with World Junior Individividual Championships and Women’s World Junior Team Championship in New Zealand later this month and World Doubles in Manchester in August.

Indian players will also be in action in November at the World Men’s Team Championships in France.

Karagui is currently travelling with the junior players and India's leading squash star, Joshna Chinappa, in Alexandria, Egypt. Karagui is expected to return to India on July 10.

Karagui's presence guided the Indian players to success at the Asian Individual Squash Championships with Joshna lifting the crown and Dipika finishing runner-up. Saurav Ghosal also reached the final of the tournament, which was held in April in Chennai, India, but was defeated by Hong Kong's Max Lee.
