Maharashtra’s Rohit Kadam was stretched by Saurabh Kumar of Uttar Pradesh before he advanced into the men’s quarterfinals of the GSC-All IndiaSquash Open here Tuesday.
Kadam led 2-0 before Kumar put up a terrific fight to take the third game, only to lose the next meekly.
Kadam triumphed 11-6, 11-6, 9-11, 11-6 at the Goregoan Sports Club.
Maharashtra’s Deepak Tiwari put up plucky fight against second-seeded Abhishek Agarwal, also from the host state, before being beaten 11-8, 11-9, 11-8 in another pre- quarter-final clash.
Maharashtra’s Aishwary Singh dropped the first game before he ousted his state-mate Pradeep Amar Singh 5-11, 11-3, 11-7, 11-6 to enter the last eight.
Top seeded Abhishek Pradhan and Services Mahul Kumar also entered the quarters.
In the boys’ under-19 category, Delhi’s Jaideep Singh battled past West Bengals Sampuran Baneree before making the last eight with a 11-7, 11-0, 11-13, 11-7 win.
