Mahesh Mangaonkar has reached the door steps of a title-win in the Sekisui Squash Open, a Professional Squash Association (PSA) world tour event in Kriens, Switzerland. In the semi-final held on Saturday, the fifth seeded Indian made short work of unseeded Geoffrey Demont (France) in straight games 11-6, 11-9, 11-5.
A picture of determination, Mahesh has hardly put a foot wrong thus far in this $15,000 tournament and the semi-final was another sample of this. Except for the second game where the Frenchman seemed to claw back there was nothing to stop the Indian's progress.
Mahesh now faces the third seed Kristian Frost of Denmark who had ousted the top seed Greg Lobban of Scotland. Frost, ranked 58 in the world as against Mahesh's 65, is also in search of big moments this year. The final to that extent should be a keenly fought affair.
