National squash: Nandrajog shines

Gaurav Nandrajog and Siddharth Suchde acquitted themselves well in the men's qualifying event of the Senior National squash championship.

Seasoned campaigner Gaurav Nandrajog, the top-seed in the men’s qualifying draw received a first-round bye and then proceeded to make short work of Shreyas Mehta 11-2, 11-2, 11-2 in the second round of the Otters Club 73rd Senior National Squash Championship here on Tuesday. A national men’s singles runner-up 10 years ago, the 31-year-old Nandrajog from Delhi will meet Maharashtra’s Jay Vaknalli in a third round match on Wednesday.

Another noted player and former professional among the 256 entries received for the men’s qualifying competition is Siddharth Suchde. He cut his teeth in local tournaments, playing for Cathedral and John Connon, before moving to Scotland and thereafter to Harvard University in 2007. After receiving a first-round bye, he cantered to an easy win against Madhya Pradesh’s Aditya Agarwal. Among others Naveen Jangra, Sandeep Jangra and Yohan Darius Pandole notched easy wins.

The week-long nationals has received support from Bharat Forge, Tisva, Western Group, Minimax and Camlin Fine Sciences.
