Fifth seed Mahesh Mangaonkar defeated Baptiste Masotti (France) 12-10, 12-10, 7-11, 11-7 in a first round match of the $15,000 Sekisui Open Squash in Kriens (Switzeland) late on Wednesday.

Mahesh, who had a bad end to 2015 when he had to pull out of the circuit with an illness, has been making a determined effort to catch up with the tough competition in the professional league and this is his second tournament in March. As the scoreline suggests it was tough match against the 20-year-old Frenchman who had tasted success in a tournament in Iran last month.

It did Mahesh a lot good that he warded off the tough resistance and emerged victorious. The Indian plays Bernat Jaume, another young talent from Spain, next.

Another Indian player on the PSA World circuit is Sachika Ingale, who has fought her way into the main round in the Women's Squash Week in Calgary, Canada. In her final qualifying match, Scahika defeated Nicole Bunyan of Canada 6-11, 12-10, 11-2, 11-8.
