LeBron James will be more than a showstopper for the Lakers. He's taking Hollywood by storm. James and actress Elizabeth Banks are teaming up for a new NBC drama, "Hoops."

The series is currently in development at the network, according to a report from Variety, and will be produced by James' and Maverick Carter's SpringHill Entertainment, Brownstone Productions and Warner Bros. Television.

The one-hour episodes will focus on Stevie Decker, who is the first female head coach of a men's college basketball team. Decker spent time both playing and coaching in the WNBA before making the transition to her alma mater. The role will be played by Banks.

James' deal includes a script commitment with a penalty attached, meaning if the pilot does not get produced and aired, the network is subject to a large fee payed out to the producers and writers of the show.

Famed screenwriter Jennifer Cecil is said to be working on the script. Cecil most recently worked on the ABC series “Notorious,” and other shows like “Hell on Wheels,” “Private Practice,” “Brothers & Sisters,” “One Tree Hill,” and “Providence.”
