Former France and Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane has been roped in today by Kanakia Group to endorse its upcoming project called Kanakia Paris in BKC (Mumbai).

The deal was stitched together by India’s leading sports marketing company, Professional Management Group (PMG), which has in past, initiated associations between Indian brands and international footballers such as Lothar Matthaus and Ruud Gullit.

Speaking on the association Melroy D’souza, COO PMG, stated ‘We are delighted to have played a key role in bringing two great brands together. Zinedine Zidane is a world-class athlete and Kanakia Group has been creating world class housing for more than 2 decades. We didn’t look beyond Zidane as he is undoubtedly the perfect icon for this association.

Football legend, Zinedine Zidane said that, "It’s a pleasure to be associated with the Kanakia Group Pvt Ltd and thank PMG for bringing us together".

Managing Director of Kanakia Group, Mr. Himanshu Kanakia said, “We are proud to welcome Zinedine Zidane to the Kanakia family. He is a man of excellence and that is reflected through his actions on and off the field and it bodes well with our philosophy of providing excellence through our work. He is not only the brand ambassador but will also consult us on the wellness aspect of the project."

Indian brands targetting foreign stars

In late 2015, Tata Motors signed a historic deal with football great Lionel Messi, to become the face of the company's passenger vehicle segment. Prior to that star golfer Tiger Woods had agreed a deal with Hero MotoCorp.

The country's love for sports outside the nation isn't new though. In 2010, Venky's, a seller of poultry products based in Pune, bought the stakes of English club Blackburn Rovers for GBP 46 million. Vivek Ranadivé, an Indian-American businessman, founder and former CEO of TIBCO, is currently the owner and chairman of NBA side Sacramento Kings.
