Bangladesh enters Super 10 with comprehensive win

Tamim Iqbal scored a blazing 63-ball unbeaten 103 to power Bangladesh to a comprehensive win over Oman in a rain-affected qualifier and help the team progress to the main draw of the World T20 at the HPCA Stadium here on Sunday.

Put in to bat, Bangladesh relied on Tamim’s scintillating knock to register 180 for two and beat Oman by 54 runs under D/L method to top Group A. Bangladesh will join India, Pakistan, New Zealand and Australia in the next phase of the tournament.

Determined to prove his worth in the shortest format, Tamim made an emphatic statement by racing to his maiden international century.

Tamim's innings, which helped him become the first Bangladeshi to score a century and gather 1,000 T20I runs, was a rare mix of responsible batsmanship and extraordinary stroke play.

Tamim used his soft hands to get boundaries from good balls before switching to some ferocious hammering. He struck 10 fours and five mighty sixes all over the beautiful park to blow away the hapless associate side and overshadow Shabbir Rahman's 26-ball 44.

On a slow pitch, except pacer Bilal Khan and Amir, Oman bowlers were wayward in their line and length. Sloppy fielding added to their woes. Oman was 41 for two after seven overs when rain intervened.

On resumption, Oman had a revised target of 152 runs off 16 overs. Soon after, at 45 for four in 8.2 overs, the covers came on again. When play restarted, Oman needed 75 more off 22 deliveries but managed only 20.
