JP Duminy attempts a pull shot against Afghanistan in Mumbai on Monday.

JP Duminy will miss South Africa's World Twenty20 clash with West Indies after injuring his left hamstring.

Duminy limped out of the Proteas' clash with Afghanistan on Monday, pulling up while chasing the ball to the boundary in the first over of the underdogs' ultimately unsuccessful chase of 210 in Mumbai.

The all-rounder did not return to the field at Wankhede Stadium, but team officials remain confident the 31-year-old's tournament is not over yet.

Team manager Dr Mohammed Moosajee told Cricket South Africa's official website: "The scans which were done yesterday confirmed our clinical suspicion of a hamstring strain which means that he will be ruled out of Friday's game against the West Indies in Nagpur.

"The plan is to try and get him ready for our last round-robin match against Sri Lanka in Delhi on Sunday.

"Our physiotherapist, Brandon Jackson, has already started with treatment and rehab but for now we will have to wait and see how he responds to the plan."

Duminy made an unbeaten 54 in the Proteas' incredible opening defeat to England in Mumbai, before contributing 29 not out in the 37-run win over Afghanistan.

South Africa's tournament plans have been beset by injuries, with fitness doubts over Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander's continued absence biting hard.
