Morgan: Cannot find fault with our bowling

"Cricket can be a cruel game and at no stage where the West Indies ahead but these are possible (the last over runs) and it just happened," the England captain said.

Joe Root, captain Eoin Morgan and Ben Stokes of England react after losing the ICC World T20 final between England and the West Indies at Eden Gardens on Sunday.

Eoin Morgan stated that England's bowling was in fine fettle despite a last over that went awry here in the ICC World T20 final.

"I think it (the result) is cruel, I cannot fault anything we did today on the field but we let ourselves down with the bat, we were terrible, we were 40 short. Cricket can be a cruel game and at no stage where the West Indies ahead but these are possible (the last over runs) and it just happened," the England captain told the media late on Sunday night.

A late blitz from Carlos Brathwaite, with 34 off 10 balls, and a stupendous 85 not out from Marlon Samuels ensured West Indies grabbed a thrilling four-wicket victory at the Eden Gardens here on Sunday.

West Indies needed 19 runs off the last over and Brathwaite hit Ben Stokes for four massive sixes which took them home. For England, left-arm pacer David Willey picked up figures of 3/20.

“He’s a fantastic bowler, he got two early wicket, the rebuilding allowed us to put something on the board and the bowlers got us close. We showed an immense amount of character in the tournament, not quite done enough to win it. I truly believe this is only the start of something special. It’s not his fault, we’re all in this together, we enjoy our wins — and the pain will be shared tonight,” the skipper said.

Speaking about the overall campaign, Morgan said: "I am extremely proud and I am hoping this is the beginning of something special. Looking forward to the future."
