Steve Smith was delighted to see Australia put together a solid all-round display to beat Pakistan by 21 runs at the World Twenty20.

Having lost its opener against New Zealand, Australia has now won back-to-back matches and captain Smith was pivotal in Friday's triumph, hitting 61 not out to end Pakistan's qualifying hopes.

James Faulkner (5-27) became the first Australia bowler to claim a five-wicket haul in a Twenty20 international and Smith hailed his side's "clinical performance", with Adam Zampa (2-32) earning praise from his skipper.

"It all came together," said Smith. "We have not played to potential in the [first] two games. Today was quite a clinical performance.

"I thought [David] Warner was hitting well. He needed to face more balls. [Aaron] Finchy looked good for a start. [Adam] Zampa has bowled beautifully. He reads the batsmen well and is really smart, which is great for Australia.

"Tomorrow [Saturday] will be about resting, we will be back in two days."

Faulkner won man of the match for his display and turned his attention toward the next game against hosts India.

"We are back on track," he said. "We have played well all summer back home. We showed what we can do with the bat.

"Looking forward to the next game against India, who are a tough opponent at home. We should be up for the challenge."
