Two days after being axed from India's squad for the Commnwealth Games, paddler Soumyajit Ghosh has been excluded from the second season of Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT), the franchise-based league to be played in June. Ghosh is facing rape allegations from his former girlfriend.

The decision was announced by 11Sports, promoter of UTT, on Monday, ahead of Wednesday's Player Draft. The promoters decided to toe the line of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), which provisionally suspended in the wake of the police complaint filed against the champion paddler.

“Since UTT is recognised by TTFI, we accept their decision and have replaced Soumyajit Ghosh with Raj Mondal for the upcoming player draft. With the draft around the corner, the current circumstances do not allow us any time to wait for the decision of the court.” stated an 11Sports spokesperson.

Mondal, the right-handed all-round paddler, will thus get a maiden opportunity to showcase his prowess in the league's second season. The 25-year-old missed out on the inaugural edition last year since only the top six men player make the cut for the league.

Sathiyan, Shetty retained

Meanwhile, G. Sathiyan and Sanil Shetty were the only two paddlers who were retained by their respective franchises ahead of the player draft. As a result, the duo will continue to be in the camp of Dabang Smashers and Falcons, respectively, while veteran Sharath Kamal will be the star attraction during the player draft.
