Top seeds Sayani Panda of West Bengal and Anargya Manjunath of Karnataka repeated last week’s heroics in Panchkula to take home the cadet and sub-junior girls’ titles, respectively, on the concluding day of the 11Sports Central Zone national ranking table tennis tournament.

While Panda proved to be too quick for tiny Nandini Saha of North Bengal on course a 4-0 win, Anargya scraped past Karruna Gajendran in an all-Karnataka battle to earn the maximum points in the initial two national ranking tournaments of the season.

Dominant win for Jain

In the boys’ section, Delhi’s Payas Jain, the second seed, and Maharashtra left-hander Gaurav Panchangam reigned supreme in the sub-junior and cadet categories, respectively. Jain, after being stretched by Tamil Nadu's deceptive S. Preyesh Raj in the semifinal, didn’t let Divyansh Srivastava of Uttar Pradesh settle into a rhythm in the final.

Panchangam, the seventh seed, saw off a stiff challenge posed by Karnataka’s Varun Kashyap in an entertaining cadet final. Both the players were involved in long rallies to give a handful of spectators in the Abhay Prashal gallery a reason to cheer. Panchangam held his nerves at crucial junctures to finish the match off in five games.
