National TT: Haryana secures hard-fought victory over AAI

Jubin Kumar saved Haryana the blushes by bouncing back from the brink of defeat against an inspired Airports Authority of India. He score a breathtaking 3-2 victory for a place in the men’s team semifinals of the National table tennis championship here.

After Soumyajit Ghosh dramatically lost from 8-1 in the third set after winning the first two against Sarthak Gandhi in the fourth singles, Jubin found himself down 8-9 in the fourth after tossing away a 5-1 lead. At this stage, Haryana was just two points away from an embarrassing defeat, but Jubin held his nerve to win 11-9 and force the decider.

Amid rising tension, Jubin never trailed and eventually won 11-7 to close the tie lasting two hours and 20 minutes.
