World Table Tennis C'ships: Indian players advance to round two

The qualification process for the World Individual Table Tennis Championships began on Sunday.

India's Sutirtha Mukherjee and Archana Kamath won their first women's singles group matches as the qualification process for the World individual table tennis championships began here on Sunday.

Mukherjee defeated Celia Baah Danso of Ghana 11-4, 11-5, 11-1, 11-8 and will take on Rachel Moret of Switzerland on Monday in their second and final group match.

Meanwhile, Kamath overcame a tough challenge from Ivana Petric of Montenegro 11-8, 8-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-5 and will face Eva Odorova of Slovakia.

Manav Thakkar, Anthony Amalraj and Madhurika Patkar also won their first singles group matches of the tournament.

Thakkar defeated Poland's Patryk Chojnowski 11-8, 11-9, 5-11, 6-11, 11-5, 11-6 while Amalraj got a walkover from Kodjo Boccovi from Togo.

Meanwhile. Patkkar beat Latvia's Sabina Musajeva 11-4, 11-4, 9-11, 11-4, 11-7.

Thakkar will take on American Nicholas Tio while Amalraj will face Allan Gutierrez from Guatemala in their second group matches.

Patkar will play Catherine Spicer from Trinidad & Tobago in her second draw.
