World Team TT C’ships: India defeats Singapore

The Indian men’s team blanked Singapore 3-0 in the Championship Division playoff match for positions 13-24.

Indian men blanked Singapore 3-0 in the Championship Division playoff match for positions 13-24 in the World team table tennis championships here on Thursday. India will meet France at 10.30 p.m. on Friday.

G. Sathiyan overcame Commonwealth Games singles gold medal winner, Gao Ning, in five games before Sharath Kamal thrashed Lucas Tan in three straight games. Sanil Shetty defeated Ethan SF Poh to clinch the tie in India's favour.

Indian women after defeating Luxembourg 3-1 (for positions 13 to 24), will take on Hungary at 4.30 p.m. on Friday for positions 13 to 20.

  • Men: India bt Singapore 3-0 (G.Sathiyan bt Gao Ning 5-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-7; Sharath Kamal bt Lucas Tan 11-9, 11-5, 11-5; Sanil Shetty bt Ethan SF Poh 11-5, 13-15, 11-4, 11-9).
  • Women: India bt Luxembourg 3-1 (Manika Batra bt Lian Xia Ni 7-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-8; Mouma Das bt Danielle Konsbruck 11-3, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9; Madhurika Patkar lost to Sarah Nutte De 5-11, 11-4, 6-11, 10-12; Manika bt Konsbruck 13-11, 11-5, 11-3).
