WTT Star Contender: Manika-Archana pair enter semis

India's Manika Batra and Archana Kamath entered the medal round of the women's doubles in the WTT Star Contender event after beating Soo Wai Yam Minnie and Lee Ho Ching of Hong Kong 3-1 in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

The Indian women’s doubles pair of Manika Batra and Archana Kamath, seeded two, reached the semifinals of the WTT Star Contender here on Tuesday, with a 13-11, 8-11, 11-5, 13-11 win over Lee Ho Ching and Soo Wai Yam Minnie of Hong Kong. Manika and Archana will next take on Taipei’s Li Yu-Jhun and Cheng I-Ching in the last four clash.

However, G. Sathiyan and Manika bowed out of singles. While Sathiyan lost to Sweden’s Kristian Karlsson 11-5, 8-11, 7-11, 4-11 in the men’s pre-quarterfinals, Manika went down without much of a fight to Germany’s Ying Han, seeded six, 5-11, 2-11, 4-11 in the women’s round-of-16.

Earlier on Monday, the fourth-seeded mixed doubles duo of Sathiyan and Manika lost to Spain’s Alvaro Robles and Maria Xiao 7-11, 11-9, 7-11, 5-11 in the first round.

Men: Singles (pre-quarterfinals): Kristian Karlsson (Swe) bt G. Sathiyan 5-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-4.

Women: Singles (pre-quarterfinals): Ying Han (Ger) bt Manika Batra 11-5, 11-2, 11-4; Doubles (Quarterfinals): Manika Batra & Archana Kamath bt Lee Ho Ching & Soo Wai Yam Minnie (Hkg) 13-11, 8-11, 11-5, 13-11.
